Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM | A

Sigma considers this lens as one of it's Flagship lens. Inspite if that here are the pros and cons of the 35mm F/1.4 Art lens

Pros:

Cons:

  • Price - Under $1000 for a lens that competes with Canon's L lenses

  • Image Quality - Rivals lenses costing hundreds more

  • Glass - Superior glass for controlling aberrations, including fringing and flaring, including fluorite, an extremely expensive material

  • User Upgradeable - Optional USB dock support for upgrading firmware

  • Large Apeture - 1.4 f-stop lets in lots of light forfast shutter speeds in low light

  • HSM – (Hypersonic Motor) Fast and Accurate Focusing

  • Weight - Heavy for some folks at 23.5lbs

  • Price - Over $600 for a prime lens

It's tough finding cons for this lens. It's truly a work of art and I for one am delighted to see a 3rd party company like Sigma step up to give us lenses that is as good or better than their name brand counterparts.

This lens is equipped with technology including a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM), floating internal focusing system, SLD and FLD Glass elements. The HSM ensures quiet, high speed, accurate autofocusing while the floating focusing system allows for superior optical performance with subjects at a closer shooting distance. The SLD glass elements along with the FLD glass elements, which are equal to fluorite, help correct both axial and chromatic aberration. The large 1.4 aperture make it ideal in low light and the lens is compatible with the Sigma USB dock and Optimization Pro software to adjust and fine tune focusing parameters. The Sigma 35mm 1.4 DG HSM is a must have for any camera bag.
